A Few Things to Consider When Choosing Your Concrete Contractors in WI
September 29, 2017 1:34 am Leave your thoughtsWhen you’ve got a concrete project that needs doing, it can be stressful trying to find an honest, skilled, and reliable concrete contractor. For obvious reasons, it’s quite an important decision, as concrete work is often the most foundational piece of any construction job, so choosing a contactor should not be done without careful consideration on your part.
Here are some things to keep in mind while you try to choose the right concrete contractors in WI:
- Portfolio: Nothing will give you a better idea of what to expect from a concrete contractor than their previous work. When you research contractors, ask about other jobs they’ve done, and look on their websites to see if they have a portfolio with pictures from their recent work. Not only will this help you visualize the work you need done, and therefore help you ask better questions and have a better understanding of what services you’re paying for, but it will also let you know right away whether or not the companies you’re considering do good work.
- Years in business and employee experience: You don’t want to work with a company that hires only new contractors. Generally, you want to work with a crew that all have over five years of experience, individually, doing good concrete work. If even one person is learning on the job, you’re that much more likely to see defects in the concrete work. Also, the longer the concrete construction company has been in business, the more they’ve seen over the years. This makes it far less likely that you’ll experience any issues that they cannot quickly deal with on budget.
- Reputation and reviews: There’s no excuse these days to ever purchase anything, no matter how big or small, without first reading reviews online. Check out your concrete contractors in WI on Yelp, Facebook and Angie’s List, read reviews from their former customers, and read the contractors’ comments on those reviews. A negative review isn’t always a sign of a bad contractor––some people are nearly impossible to please, as anyone who’s worked on any type of job is likely to know––but if your contractor responds angrily or unprofessionally to complaints, rather than trying to address them and get them solved amicably, that’s a huge red flag. You never want to work with anyone who’s going to try to pin normal everyday problems on you.
- Insurance and certifications: Your concrete contractor needs to be fully insured, and that’s non-negotiable. Don’t try to save a few bucks by going with a cut-rate uninsured or underinsured contractor. If you do, and something goes wrong on the job or someone gets injured, you could be left holding the bill for your contractor’s negligence. And if you think it’s frustrating for a job to miss its budget due to scope creep, just imagine how infuriating it would be for the costs to balloon due to the poor foresight and mismanagement on the part of your concrete contractor. The long and short of it is that no serious company that’s in it for the long haul would ever operate without full insurance. If you find a company that isn’t fully insured, they aren’t serious, and you should simply avoid hiring them.
Obviously, when it’s all said and done, you’re probably going to make your choice based on your budget.
